Observation write-up - Two observation forms and teacher observation form

Image
To gain experience, I observed one of the experienced teachers at Jennath International School on the 8th and 9th of January. The name of the teacher is Mr. D. Kariyawasam. It is noteworthy to mention that this observation was instrumental in making my internship a successful one because throughout university life we mostly learned theoretical knowledge and this observation helped me to comprehend how to apply that theoretical knowledge in a practical context. The observations were conducted by an experienced teacher at the school. In the first observation, I prepared and conducted a lesson for grade 11 students. The observer provided valuable feedback and he commented that I taught the lesson very comprehensively. Moreover, he instructed me to provide mo...

Teaching Philosophy Statement 😊 - The principles that guide my approach to teaching

Image
The ESL teaching experience that I obtained from the B.A. (Special) Degree in TESL led me to develop myself as a teacher who is capable of teaching to any age group with self-confidence and making a learner-friendly environment. In my opinion, a teacher is typically considered a facilitator, responsible for imparting knowledge and fostering critical thinking and creativity through incorporating collaborative works within the classroom. My ESL teaching experience has always fostered me to see myself as a wizard, and my classroom as a place where extraordinary things happen creating the interaction among the students. Combining the magic with sound pedagogy can create a truly transformative ESL learning experience for my students. I believe that each student is unique and has different interests, abilities, and paces of learning. Through magical power, it is my responsibility to shed light to increase their academic performances. Teaching can be likened to the act of planting seeds i...

Introduction to my internship

Image
From the 8 th of January 2024 to the 2 nd of February 2024, I had the opportunity to complete a 45-hour teaching internship at Jennath International School in Weligama, where I taught for Grade 11 and Grade 5.   I believe it was the best decision I made since I was guided by dedicated mentors and inspired by a group of joyous and clever students. Furthermore, I was allocated three classes to teach; two classes from Grade 11 and one class from Grade 5. Grade 11-A consisted of 13 students, Grade 11-B consisted of 15 students and Grade 5 consisted of 21 students and the students were diverse in several respects, gender, nationality, and ability. My teacher-in-charge, Mr. Kariyawasam, and mentor, Mr.Raufdeem, provided me with valuable guidance and support, enabling me to acquire essential skills and knowledge that will prove beneficial in my teaching career. As you read through these pages, I invite you to join me on this transformative journey as I explore the essence of...
